“Air Aid Corridor” from TAF to Earthquake Zone

After the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) created an "air supply corridor" to bring search and rescue teams to the region. Hulusi Akar, Minister of National Defense, who oversaw the work of the 11th Air Base, said: We increased the readiness of our aircraft and provided the necessary transportation services. After the 7.4 and 7.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş and affected 10 provinces in total, search and rescue efforts continue. National Defense also took steps to deliver search and rescue teams to the earthquake area. A large number of transport aircraft, including the TSK A400m transport aircraft, began to dispatch search and rescue teams and vehicles to the region. Ambulances were also allocated to the created “air ambulance corridor”.
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, together with Commander-in-Chief General Yaşar Güler and Land Forces Commander General Musa Avsever, took a look at the activities of the 11th Air Transport Main Base Command before the earthquake. Akar, who served in the search and rescue battalion of the Turkish Defense Forces in natural disasters, answered the AA correspondent's questions about work. Stating that the country was mobilized to reduce the damage of the earthquake, repair the injured and reach the citizens under the rubble, Akar emphasized that the works that started right after the earthquake continued intensively. Stating that a disaster center was established within the Ministry of National Defense, Akar said, "Our crisis center is working intensively. Communication with the relevant ministries and institutions continues. Search and rescue teams are needed in the areas where the earthquake occurred. We provided our brigade and sent teams to the region to participate in humanitarian search and rescue operations. “Our other transport aircraft, including the A400M, have also maximized their capacity to provide the necessary transport service.”
