Erhan Arıklı, who works as the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the TRNC, announced that he wants 3 airline companies to organize regular flights from Turkey to the TRNC before the tourism season that will start in March. In addition, Arıklı stated that the TRNC is a very suitable route for airlines and noted that the trial flights of the new terminal at Ercan Airport will start in March. Arıklı said that they encouraged companies to make more flights to the TRNC and invited them on the subject, adding, "Before the tourism season that will start in March, 3 airline companies asked us to start regular flights from Turkey to the TRNC. Last season, we carried 4 million passengers a year from Ercan Airport. We have reached this number of passengers who fell during the epidemic period. This year, the target is to increase this number to 5 million, so we hope that the introduction of new airlines will make our work easier. Explaining that the construction of the new Ercan Airport complex is physically finished and efforts are being made to improve the technical deficiencies, Minister Arıklı stated that the capacity of the airport is approximately 10 million passengers per year. Noting that Russian citizens living in Southern Cyprus cannot go to their home countries by plane, he said, "We will try to fly Russian citizens living in Southern Cyprus to their countries via Ercan Airport. Again, we anticipate that Russian citizens who will visit them from Russia will use our airport for flights. Russian citizens in the south could also use our airport. " he said.
