The striped T-shirt, known as a sailor's shirt, was first worn by French navy soldiers as underwear. The origin of the t-shirt, also known as 'Breton stripe', dates back to the 1800s. The version used in the French navy had 21 strips. These stripes represented the victories of Napoleon Bonaparte. Fashion Designer Gabrielle Coco Chanel used the striped sailor t-shirt in one of her collections in the 1900s and it became one of the timeless clothes preferred by everyone.
