Designers Pauline Van Dongen, Christiaan Holland and Solar Energy Specialist Gert Jan Jongerden designed clothes that allow the those who wear them to charge communication devices such as phones and tablets with solar panels placed on the clothes to convert sunlight into electricity. These clothes, which will make spectacular contributions in terms of both functionality and sustainability, can store enough energy for a normal smartphone to be 50 % charged when worn for an hour in the sun. Solar panels are placed on the parts of the clothing, such as shoulders, back and chest, where sunlight can be received at the most vertical angle. Thus, it is ensured that the panels receive the sun's rays at the most vertical angle.
For a sustainable world, we should support wearable technologies and smart textiles to take more place in our lives in ecological integrity.
