Fashion Design

 Natural painting workshop and exhibition

A painting activity with natural materials on silk fabric was held for IGU Fashion Design students.

A workshop was held in the company of Gülfer Keskin, an expert in the field, in the "Natural Dyeing" event, which was carried out in order for the students of Istanbul Gelisim Vocational School Fashion Design Program to adopt a sustainable approach and to create more environmentally friendly designs.

In the workshop where the department students attended two separate sessions, morning and afternoon, raw silk was rested with rusty water. Leaves, onion peels, flowers and rose petals were placed on silk fabric and wrapped with straw rope. The wrapped raw silk was dried in the oven, allowing the natural material color to pass onto the fabric.

Silk fabrics dyed at the end of the drying and ironing process were exhibited with the participation of department teachers and students. Istanbul Gelisim Vocational School Deputy Director Dr. Instructor Member Tolga Tuzun Inan opened the exhibition and hosted the visitors until the end of the day.

In the event, in which the students of the Fashion Design department participated intensively, the students discovered the colors of natural materials and closely followed their transfer to the fabric. The activity is thought to be beneficial in terms of developing the design power of the individual and acquiring the design-oriented thinking skills with a sustainable perspective. Considering the intense demand from the students, it is thought that the event may be repeated in the future.
