Edirne Red which was first used by the dye masters of Edirne in the 15th century includes a very laborious dyeing process. Edirne red has gone down in history as a color in which large prizes are given to those who can solve its mystery. The color which attracted the attention of Europe with the influence of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s and for which was spied to find out the process of obtaining the color was called "Turkish Red" at first, but later took the name "Edirne Red".
The raw material of "Edirne red" is the "rubia tinctorum" plant. With the work initiated by the Trakya University, the rubia tinctorum plant is starting to be reproduced.
