A Vegetable Fiber: Ramie
Ramie, a type of vegetable fiber used for thousands of years, was used as mummy wraps in ancient Egypt.
Ramie fiber which continues to be used in various textile products today is one of the most durable natural fibers. This fabric which is very absorbent and does not sweat has positive features including resistant to stains, light sensitivity, bacteria, mold and insects. Its negative features are that it wrinkles very quickly, has a high price due to production costs, and has a hard structure when used without mixing with other fibers.
Ramie fiber which we are not accustomed to seeing in the Turkish market is mostly produced in China and Brazil. It is a sustainable fiber as no chemical pesticides are required during its production.
