A Designer Beyond His Time: André Courrèges
Influenced by the rising space age and futurism in the 1960s, André Courrèges has prepared collections beyond the times he lived in.
Courrèges studied civil engineering and served as a pilot in the French Air Force for a while. Later, he turned to fashion, which was his main area of interest, and after working in Balanciaga for a while, he founded his own fashion house. Inspired by the space race madness and futurism of the period, the designer made a very effective entrance into the fashion world with her 'Moon Girl' collection in 1964.
The 'Moon Girl' collection, in which geometrical details were used, was accompanied by white patent leather boots, different styles of hats and glasses.
