Robots named Tom, Dick and Harry were developed by Small Robot Company to weed unwanted weeds with minimal use of chemicals. To this end, in a field in England, three robots were tasked with finding and electrifying weeds before planting seeds in the cleared soil.
The startup had been working on autonomous weed killers since 2017. In April it launched its first commercial robot, the Tom, which is now operating on three farms in England. For other robots, he explained that it is still in the prototype stage and is being tested.
The little robot says the robot Tom can scan 20 hectares (49 acres) a day and collect data that is then used by Dick, his "crop care" robot, to destroy weeds. Then it's robot Harry's turn to plant seeds in the weed-free soil.
According to the statement, the robot creates a current that runs through the roots of the plant and through the soil and then returns, completely destroying the weed. In this way, it can go to each plant that threatens the plants to be cropped and eliminate it. If it is requested to perform this operation on the entire field, it cannot work at the desired speed. However, when you take it to the place where the weeds are, it can achieve its purpose without harming the crops and harmless plants. In this way, a type of precision agriculture has emerged in which every plant is taken into account and monitored.
The company says that when the system is fully up and running, farmers can reduce costs by up to 40% and chemical use by up to 95%.
