Scientists Have Stored Data in DNA

Hard disk drives and DVDs will become obsolete like floppy disks. Due to the rapidly increasing need for data storage in the digital world, all these data will be recorded in DNA molecules containing our genetic information.

Hard disk drives and DVDs will become obsolete like floppy disks. Due to the rapidly increasing need for data storage in the digital world, all these data will be recorded in DNA molecules containing our genetic information. In that vein, Harvard University has recently managed to store 770 terabytes of data in 1 gram of DNA. Likewise, Cambridge European Bioinformatics Institute has broken new ground.
DNA has two major advantages in terms of data storage. Firstly, it does not take up space in the workplace with its microscopic structure, and secondly, it can store large amounts of data on very small scales.
