What is eye twitching? The involuntary movement of the eyelid for a certain period of time is called eye twitching. Eye twitching, which is called blepharospasm in medicine, is known as eye twitching among the people. The reasons for this situation; It can be caused by many factors, from insomnia to magnesium deficiency. Ophthalmologist Dr. Serkan Güreser warns that excessive computer use can cause eye twitching. He states that people who experience frequent eye twitches are often tired, sleepless and stressed. The most common causes of eye twitching include eyestrain, caffeine or alcohol consumption, and vision problems or the need for glasses if you work at a computer all the time. Excessive caffeine or alcohol consumption can also trigger minor eye twitches. Eye twitching is defined as small, spontaneous and involuntary contractions of the thin muscles between the eyelids. It is not a symptom of any disease and is not usually caused by any eye or neurological disease. To treat eye twitching, Dr. Güreser recommends relaxation and stress reduction using artificial tears and muscle relaxants, and surgery in severe cases. He also recommends getting enough rest, reducing the consumption of tea, coffee, and cola, as well as taking a daily multivitamin with B-complex vitamins. If twitching persists, it is recommended to consult a doctor in this area.
