Joe Biden administration announced that they will make new legal regulations to improve passenger rights in air travel in the USA. The statement was made at the White House by US President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. In the statement, it was announced that new steps will be taken to prevent passengers from being victimized due to disruptions in air travel, especially during holiday periods in the USA. It was stated that the said disruptions were related to flight cancellations and delays and that the regulations to be made were aimed at protecting consumers and reducing costs.
According to the arrangement to be made, if flight cancellations or delays are due to the fault of the airline company, the companies will cover the re-booking, hotel, and meal costs of the aggrieved passengers. Biden also said that this is an important step for middle and lower-class families.
In his speech, Biden said that the airline industry is an important part of the economy and said, "However, I know how disappointed many of you are with the service you receive from US airlines." Biden also said that many people have been victims of airway disruptions in the US recently, and this is unacceptable.
In his speech, Biden also referred to a study that showed that the European Union requires airlines to compensate passengers for flight delays, which in turn reduces the number of flight delays. Biden also noted that many major airlines allow parents to sit side-by-side with their children at no cost.
Buttigieg, the Minister of Transport, noted that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has started to use new technologies to determine more efficient flight routes that reduce time and cost, due to the recent disruptions in flights. Expressing that airline companies must accept their responsibilities to provide better service to passengers, Buttigieg added that otherwise, they will do what is necessary.
