F-16 Type Fighter Aircraft Flyed for 17 Hours by Artificial Intelligence

In a test flight carried out by the US Air Force, the F-16 type fighter aircraft named VISTA X-62A was managed by an artificial intelligence computer software throughout the flight and successfully fulfilled its assigned flight mission, which lasted more than 17 hours. The US Air Force (USAF) conducted this test flight together with Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works division and Calspan Corporation.

Thus, Lockheed Martin company's F-16 type fighter trainer named VISTA X-62A was recorded as the first tactical aircraft controlled by artificial intelligence.
This adaptation to the aircraft, to which the newly developed modular computer software can be adapted quickly, can be made thanks to its open architecture. It has been reported that the test aircraft in question has been used at Edwards Air Force Base for about 20 years.

The F-16 type test aircraft, formerly named NF-16D, was equipped with VISTA Simulation System (VSS) developed by Calspan company, Model Tracking Algorithm (MFA) and Autonomous Simulation Control System (SACS) developed by Lockheed Martin for this test flight. supported by the software of these hardwares. Thanks to these technologies, new capabilities based on autonomous and artificial intelligence have been gained to the aircraft. It was stated that the artificial intelligence flight, which lasted more than 17 hours, was carried out as part of a series of tests that began in December 2022.
