Russia Increases the Quota of Turkish Airlines

As the summer tourism season approached, Russia, unable to find the required number of planes for tourists due to sanctions, delivered two-thirds of the flights to Turkey.

According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, “As of June 1, 2022, Turkish airline companies have been given a quota of 438 flights to Russia per week. Russian airline companies, on the other hand, will be able to make only 177 flights per week in the direction of Turkey. This situation, which developed in favor of Turkey, is connected with the sanctions of western countries. Airbus and Boeing planes leased by Russia are demanded back by their owners, and there is a shortage of planes in Russia. The risk that Russian planes that will make flights to Turkey will be tied up at airports continues. Russia, which largely delivers air transportation to Turkey in the summer season, also has an important demand from Ankara. It demands a guarantee that Russian planes that will land at airports in Turkey will not be confiscated.”
