From Hangar to Sky: The Story of a Ferry Flight

As part of the Airline Management and Transportation Services course at Istanbul Gelisim Vocational School, an in-class industry sharing event was organized by Asst.Prof. Demet Özcan Biçici.
The event was held on November 13, 2025, and welcomed Mr. Turgut Yaprakçı, instructor of applied courses in the Aircraft Technology Program. With extensive experience in aircraft maintenance at Turkish Airlines and various private airlines, Mr. Yaprakçı shared real-life insights into “ferry flights” - technical test flights conducted following maintenance procedures.
During the session, he elaborated on how maintenance processes are managed after an aircraft malfunction, how the aircraft is restored to flying condition, and the operational steps involved in ferry flights. The event provided students with the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through real-world examples and to gain a deeper understanding of technical departments within airline organizations.
The session aimed to help students develop a holistic perspective of the aviation sector and served as a valuable example of integrating industry practice into academic coursework.
