Who is the Leader of the Chinese Sky? Boeing-Airbus-Comac

China's domestic aircraft manufacturer COMAC was established on May 11, 2008. In order to reduce the dependency of world aviation against Airbus and Boeing; The COMAC C919, which is the first production in the narrow body class, has been produced in the past years and delivered to China Eastern Airlines on December 9, 2022 with a great ceremony.

Although the C919 tries to compete with Boeing and Airbus in the narrow body segment, it does not attract enough attention in China and has not reached its targeted sales figures for now.

The fact that the classics of civil aviation, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 series aircraft, are advantageous in many aspects such as the already established infrastructure, technical support and maintenance facilities, predictable cost conditions, makes it very difficult in terms of the uncertainty and additional costs that a new aircraft will bring to the market.

In addition to this situation; In terms of aviation safety, it will take years to prove itself and build trust, and it means that a new aircraft needs a lot of time to be accepted and used.

Considering all these conditions, it is predicted that the competition will be between Boeing and Airbus again in 2023. Both companies have made many sales to China to date and have taken as much of this huge cake as possible.

Airbus is ahead of Boeing, which can make 1348 sales with 1638 sales as of November 2022. However, when the C919 is evaluated in terms of future years, it is thought that it can rival Airbus and Boeing with its innovation-oriented development plans.

The Chinese government sees strengthening in science and technology as the main pillar of its national development strategy, and from this perspective, modern Chinese industry with innovative developments; It plans to strengthen its independence and economy with strategically important projects such as green energy, information technology, biotechnology and state-of-the-art maritime and aviation equipment that it produces.

Established in Tianjin, China, Airbus' assembly facilities played an important role in aircraft orders. With the effect of the facilities it established in Tianjin, Airbus took an order for 292 aircraft in July 2022, while Boeing's last order remained as the agreement for 59 aircraft in September 2021.

Airbus estimated that it has 53% of the Chinese market in its calculations for July 2022.
