The use of electric vehicles is increasing day by day. This is the case in many modes of transportation. Many companies in our country continue to export their electric public transportation vehicles to different parts of the world.
The use of electric buses is also increasing in our country. Samsun is one of the cities that use electric buses.
Electric buses designed and produced in cooperation with Aselsan, the pride of our country, and Temsa, one of our major manufacturers, have been used for public transportation in Samsun since September and continue to carry passengers.
Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir shared some information about the process that has passed since the day they started to carry passengers. He emphasized that a tremendous fuel saving of 47 thousand 456 liters has been achieved in the first two-month period since the electric buses started to serve.
According to the information given by the World Health Organization (WHO), transportation vehicles occupy a very large share with 23% among the stakeholders that cause carbon emissions. Thanks to the new electric buses, the carbon emission to be made on 112 thousand 990 kilometers of road in this 2-month period has been reduced to zero.
In addition, electric buses generally have very low operating costs.
The operating cost of one of the 12-meter electric buses used in Samsun is approximately 2.78 TL/km. The operating cost of an internal combustion diesel bus of the same dimensions is 10.74 TL/km. Electric buses in the fleet cover 132 trips and 3,360 km per day.
If this road had been traveled by a diesel vehicle, the fuel cost would have been 1 million 237 thousand 557 liras. However, this cost was 353 thousand 999 liras with electric buses.
