Big Move for Electric Vehicles from the World Giant

Stellantis is one of the largest automotive groups in the world. As with many companies, this group also aims to take quick steps in the transition to electric vehicles. In line with these goals, the three companies jointly opened a huge battery factory with TotalEnergies and Mercedes-Benz. After the first partnership with TotalEnergies in 2020, Mercedes-Benz joined the partnership in 2022.

The facility, which has an initial production capacity of 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and will increase to 40 GWh by 2030, will be able to produce lithium batteries with a very small carbon footprint.

With the factory opened in France, Europe is also of great importance in terms of being one of the 3 facilities to be established. Considering that it aims to increase the production capacity to 250 GWh by 2030 on a European basis, this factory is also of great importance in this sense.

The primary goal is to offer packages that meet customer needs for all vehicles belonging to Stellantis group brands. In total, as per Stellantis group, it is predicted that the capacity will be 400 GWh by 2030 with 5 gigafactories to be established in Europe and America.

Currently, there are 24 BEV (battery electric vehicle) models belonging to the group. The group plans to increase this number to 47 by the end of 2024. In the 2030 targets, this number is 75, the main target. Its total sales are expected to be 5 million for BEVs. Continuous updates in the chemistry of the batteries bring the necessity of keeping them up-to-date in their factories.

The Stellantis group will train its employees with a 400-hour course. Thanks to this training, it is expected to reach new targets in battery production more easily. Until 2025, there will be at least 600 employees in the production facility. By 2030, the Group has a sales target of 100% in passenger cars and 50% in light commercial vehicles.
