Assurance for Electric Vehicle Batteries: 100 Years of Phosphate Discovery

We have entered an era where electric vehicles have become widespread. It is a constantly growing industry. The needs of this sector have increased rapidly, and for some, there are limited resources in our world. Norwegian mining company Norge Mining announced that an incredible resource such as 70 billion tons of phosphate rock has been found in Norway. Not only phosphate rock, but also minerals such as titanium and vanadium were found in the mineral content. These minerals are of great importance for the aerospace and defense industries.

Phosphate minerals to be obtained from phosphate rock are also used in the production of solar panels, vehicle batteries and fertilizers used for agriculture.

The phosphate rocks found are so large that they are estimated to be able to meet the needs of our world for the next 100 years. Because the total of the data known so far was approximately 71 billion tons. We are talking about a source that is almost as big as all the sources found so far.

In fact, the biggest product for the phosphate rock found is fertilizer. About 90% of the extracted amounts are used in the production of phosphorus for use in agriculture. Of course, there is a serious need for lithium-iron-phosphate batteries used by electric vehicles and solar panels.

Of the 71 billion tons of reserves known so far, approximately 50 billion tons are in Morocco. In this case, it meant a scarce resource for the countries of the European Union. However, with this new discovery, a situation of critical importance has emerged for the countries on the continent and has removed the worries.

In the coming period, the necessary work will be started for the extraction of the rock. The downside here is of course that the refining process will be carbon-intensive. For this reason, it is thought that the refining process will largely take place outside the continent.
