Applied English Translation

Humans still beat machines when it comes to literary translation

Machine translation is the process of automatically translating texts from one language to another using artificial intelligence and without human intervention. Machine translation is very fast, it translates millions of words in just a few seconds. It can translate real-time chat messages, large-scale texts or large amounts of data. Machine translation increases productivity and reduces time to present it to the market by providing the ability to deliver translations quickly. In addition, machine translation allows you to process documents in a foreign language, find relevant terms and memorize them for future application. Disadvantages of machine translation: unable to detect and correct errors, incapable of translating emotionally charged texts, has difficulty distinguishing homophones. Machines simply translate words, while humans convey meanings.
Translators use machine translation services to translate faster and more efficiently. Is it possible for modern machine translation to surpass the capabilities of traditional literary translation, transfer the full meaning of the information contained in the source text to the target language, analyze all text elements and determine how words affect each other?
Would you use Google Translate to translate the English or any language version of a novel - or would you translate it yourself?

While researchers have been fascinated by the potential applications of machine translation (MT) in the field of literary translation, "machines are still far from posing any serious challenge to human literary translators," according to the Council of European Literary Translators Associations.
