Canva Unveils Translation and Other AI-Powered Features

The Australian graphic design platform hosted its flagship Canva Create event last Thursday, sharing a host of new features that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to make the design process more efficient. One of them allows users to translate text written in a particular design into 134 different languages.
"One of the biggest challenges for businesses may be making assets available in different markets," Michael Levot, the company's head of localization, told Canva Create on Thursday. "I'm so excited to launch Translate to help you get around your designs and language barriers," he said.
Translate is the first translation tool available on the platform. Starting with the tool's launch on Thursday, free Canva users can have up to 50 pages translated during their subscription. Canva Premium and Teams users can use the tool to create translations of up to 500 pages per user per month.
According to Canva, the tool is best used with "simple and short" sentences and phrases. Users can have almost any design made on the platform translated, except designs made with Canva Docs, the platform's text editing tool.
The translation isn't the only AI-powered tool the company has launched in Canva Create. The company also announced the introduction of its text-to-image tool, which is very similar to tools like DALL-E and Midjourney, allowing users to automatically generate an image or illustration based on a written prompt.
