Applied English Translation

 April 20 Chinese Language Day

The 6 official languages of the United Nations (English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and French) each have a separate day. It was established by the UN Department of Global Communications to help people learn interesting information about each of these languages and to get to know their history better because mutual understanding comes from language, respect for its history, and accurate translation.
Nearly 1.3 billion people use Chinese as their mother tongue, making it the most spoken language in the world. With the language being so widespread, many want to learn it, but it is not that easy... The Chinese language is one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world, thanks to this feature it entered the Guinness (Book of Records).
Chinese is the official language of China, Taiwan, and Singapore. As you know, there are many dialects in Chinese. Foreigners learn the modern Chinese literary language, which is typical for residents of Beijing. In English it is called "Mandarin", in Chinese it is called "putonghua". There are other dialects of Chinese: Shanghainese, Minnan, Cantonese, and others. Some Chinese dialects are so different that people in different provinces cannot understand each other.
It's hard to imagine how a Chinese-speaking person can type characters using a keyboard... Thanks to the Pinyin transcription system, free use of the keyboard is possible. You can use letters of the Latin alphabet to print a word. These and other interesting facts are heard all over the world today in honor of Chinese Language Day to increase mutual understanding between citizens of different states.
