Domestic warning system application to helicopters by ASELSAN

ASELSAN continues its efforts to localize the military technologies in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). It makes the 'UV (ultraviolet) Missile Warning System (UV-FIS), an electro-optical system that generates preventive warning information for threats arising from IR (infrared) guided missiles on helicopter platforms, 100% domestic.

Continuing to work within the scope of indigenizing military technologies within the TAF, ASELSAN enabled the first production of UV-FIS, which prevents helicopter platforms against IR-guided missiles, with technology transfer from abroad. Within the scope of the project, activities such as engineering improvement, production, testing and maintenance and repair have been continued since 2007. The system, which has a wide area of use in the TAF, was also supplied for the Chilean army helicopters.

Although most of the components and sets within the sensor unit of the system could be produced locally, important components such as photo-detector and optical filter were only supplied from abroad. Indigenization practices for important components were implemented by using ASELSAN internal resources starting from 2017. In November 2020, the localization of optical filters was terminated. Afterwards, the factory qualification of the sensor unit containing the national photo-detector team was completed in February 2022, and the platform qualification was completed with the helicopter flight tests carried out in Ankara-Temelli in June 2022.
