Biometric pass service at Istanbul Airport is in trial phase

IGA Istanbul Airport has started to test the Star Alliance Biometrics transit system on domestic flights in cooperation with Turkish Airlines (THY) for a contactless travel experience.

Especially after Kovid-19, the importance of contactless systems has increased. According to the statement made by İGA, the "Star Alliance Biometrics" transit system, which offers a contactless travel experience in cooperation with THY, has started to be tested on domestic flights at Istanbul Airport. A special infrastructure was created for the biometric passport system at Istanbul Airport. The application offers a safe and contactless travel experience. Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance, a loyalty program for member airlines, has developed a biometric identification system that greatly simplifies the travel experience of its customers. The system was also tested on domestic flights at IGA Istanbul Airport for members of MilesandSmiles, THY's frequent flyer program within the Star Alliance. After the tests, the system will also be used on international lines.

MilesandSmiles member passengers using the system will be able to pass contactless from selected checkpoints, where the system will be applied, mainly within the scope of post-Kovid-19 health and hygiene measures. Passengers who wish to do so do not need to remove their masks using the Star Alliance Biometrics system, as Biometric ID allows identification while wearing the mask. MilesandSmiles member passengers can start using the Star Alliance biometric service by completing their check-in process by entering their member information in Star Alliance and THY applications on their mobile devices in a few simple steps.
