 Airbus Develops A Fuel Cell Engine


Airbus will enter the ground and flight tests of this fuel cell engine production in the ZEROe test aircraft towards the half of the next decade.


Airbus will enter the ground and flight tests of this fuel cell engine production in the ZEROe test aircraft towards the half of the next decade. For the production of new hydrogen technologies, the A380 MSN1 flight test aircraft is currently being modified to carry liquid hydrogen tanks and related distribution systems.
        Glenn Llewellyn, Vice President of Airbus Zero Emissions Aircraft, said: “Fuel cells will provide a potential solution that will help us get closer to our zero-emissions goal. We are fully focused on developing and testing this technology to find out if it is viable and viable for a zero-emission aircraft to go into operation in 2035. If scale and technology meet our purpose, fuel cell engines could be capable of powering an aircraft with a range of almost 1,000 nautical miles to carry a hundred passengers. By continuing to invest in this technology, we are considering other options that will shape our ideas regarding the production of our ZEROe aircraft, which we intend to start developing in the 2027-2028 period.” said. Airbus is named as one of the most promising alternatives to power an aircraft with zero emissions of hydrogen. Because when it is produced from renewable energy, it does not emit carbon dioxide and its most critical by-product is water.
