With the transportation activities carried out in the 11-month period of 2022, the loads carried from the airports in Istanbul increased by 268 thousand tons compared to 2021. Also in this period, a total of 2 million 331 thousand 639 tons of cargo transportation services were carried out based in Istanbul Airport. While 290 thousand 42 tons of these loads were carried on domestic lines, 2 million 420 thousand 919 tons were transported on international lines. Therefore, in the 11-month period of 2022, a total of 2 million 710 thousand 961 tons of cargo was transported from all airports in Istanbul.
Due to the worldwide Covid-19 epidemic, the disruption of flights has increased air cargo transportation in this process. This increase was also reflected in the amount of postal, baggage and cargo loads from the airports in Istanbul, which is among the important aviation centers around the world.
According to the data shared on the official website of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, in the 11-month period corresponding to January and November 2022, 176 thousand 804 tons of cargo was transported on domestic lines and 2 million 154 thousand 835 tons on international lines, centered on Istanbul Airport. Therefore, 2 million 331 thousand 639 tons of cargo was transported from Istanbul Airport to different points. Therefore, more cargo was transported this year with an increase of 948 thousand 110 tons compared to the previous year. The proportional equivalent of this increase was calculated as 69%.
The increase in Air Cargo services was also realized at Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Freight transportation from this airport in the same period of the year was 320 thousand 273 tons. While 112 thousand 773 tons of this load was carried on domestic flights, 207 thousand 500 tons were carried on international flights. These data show that there has been an increase in the loads carried from Sabiha Gökçen Airport by 15% when compared to the data of the previous year.
