IATA World Cargo Symposium, also known as WCS, is held in Istanbul this year. Speaking at the symposium, Turkish Airlines (THY) Chairman of the Board Ahmet Bolat said, "As Turkish Cargo, our goal is to place our company in the top three among the largest cargo companies in the world in a very short period." In addition, Polat explained that although the share of air cargo in world trade is 1%, its current value corresponds to 35%, which corresponds to a size of 6 trillion. In addition to these, Bolat stated that air cargo plays a serious role in logistics activities, emphasized the importance of air cargo in transporting medical supplies, especially during the pandemic process, and also underlined the size of air cargo's share in the recovery of the sector in the period after the pandemic.
Willie Walsh, Director General of the Istanbul International Air Transport Association (IATA), who took part in the IATA World Cargo Symposium, which will last approximately three days, said the following on the subject:’’ For the next three days, Istanbul will be the air cargo capital of the world. The last time we met in Istanbul for the World Cargo Symposium was in 2011, It is also a pleasure to be in Istanbul again in 2023 when we celebrate the centennial of the founding of the Republic of Turkey. WCS, held this year, promises to be an unforgettable event to evaluate how sustainability, safety, and reliability can be improved with the cooperation of those in the cargo industry, as well as to examine the possibilities created through new markets, technologies, and digitalization’’.
