Hatay Airport was also destroyed as a result of earthquakes that caused devastating effects in about 10 provinces, the center of which is Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş, and the magnitudes were recorded as 7.7 and 7.6. Unfortunately, as a result of the heavy damage, all flights to the airport, which could not be used, were also stopped. The disaster was described as the "Disaster of the Century" and after the earthquakes that caused destruction in a wide region, transportation to the airport had to be stopped due to the fractures and burns at 35 different points of the runway of Hatay Airport, which is 3 kilometers long. It is aimed to complete the activities for the two-kilometer area of the runway, which has priority for the beginning of the repair activities, and to make it suitable for operation, due to Sunday. In this direction, it is aimed to open the runway to flights, and then to provide a faster and much more effective transportation opportunity to the surrounding provinces affected by the earthquake.
Hatay Airport has a very important role in delivering the logistic support sent to the earthquake region first to the disaster victims in Hatay and then to the surrounding provinces in a fast and qualified manner. In this process, in which even a single minute passed is very important, these damage repair activities, which were expected to be completed in about three days from the beginning to the completion, have finally come to an end. Having reached the Hatay Airport, which was heavily damaged due to the earthquake, in a short time, İGA İnşaat and its technical teams completed the repair of the airport as a result of their successful activities.
The works for the airport, which is located at a distance of approximately six kilometers from the city center and will play a very serious role in the delivery of aid, which is of vital importance for earthquake victims, were completed on Sunday, February 12, and now the airport has been made suitable for operations.
