On February 6, 2023, the earthquakes that affected about 10 provinces in and around Kahramanmaraş caused a great disaster. After the disaster, SunExpress brought more than 4000 search-rescue and medical teams to the earthquake area thanks to its flights. On the return of these flights, it evacuated 6000 disaster victims in the earthquake area.
SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has organized approximately 89 private flights since the day the earthquakes took place, to transport both search and rescue teams and medical teams to the earthquake area. Apart from this, first of all, 104 tons of aid materials collected thanks to AFAD and all official organizations other than AFAD were delivered to the region where the earthquake took place by carrying out free cargo activities. On the return of these expeditions, it continues to evacuate the earthquake victims in the region in coordination with official institutions.
SunExpress extended this period until February 28 by providing convenience to the citizens for the change and cancellation of existing tickets. It provides this service for the region where the earthquake occurred, as well as for some provinces outside the earthquake region. In other words, SunExpress offers all domestic and international flights departing from/arriving in Adana, Diyarbakir, Elazig, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Hatay, Malatya, Mardin, Kars, Kayseri, Samsun, Trabzon, and Van, and those who make a reservation before 5 February and whose flight is 6 February It will give the right to change or cancel ticket dates without any charge for all passengers between February 28 and February 6. In addition, SunExpress carried out all domestic flights departing from Adana, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Malatya, and Mardin and arriving in these regions free of charge until 13 February 2023.
