To support its operations in the USA by the end of the year, Boeing signed an agreement with the world-renowned fuel manufacturer Nestle to purchase 5.6 million gallons, or 21.2 million liters, of sustainable aviation fuel. Thanks to this agreement made by Boeing, sustainable fuel purchases will double from last year.
Boeing Environmental Sustainability Vice President Sheila Remes made the following statements on the subject: ‘’ We demonstrate our commitment to both reducing our carbon footprint and mobilizing the sustainable aviation fuel industry. Our sustainable aviation fuel purchases for this year account for 25% of the jet fuel Boeing needed for last year's production, delivery, ecoDemonstrator, and Dreamlifter flights. We aim to increase this rate in the coming years’’.
The agreements are aimed at supplying fuels produced from 100% renewable materials, as in the waste of animal fat and cooking oils. After mixing the products with aviation fuel at a ratio of 30/70, blended sustainable aviation fuel is created.
Boeing's sensitivity towards sustainable fuel is not just that. Last month, the firm developed aircraft reference fluids that allow it to assess the compatibility status of sustainable aviation fuels. In addition, in 2019, it made it possible to operate commercial flights with sustainable fuels for its customers to both reduce carbon emissions and ensure that much cleaner fuels are preferred. In addition, it has developed facilities that will enable it to obtain approval for the commercial use of sustainable fuels in 2011 and to make its flights for the delivery of aircraft in 2012 with these fuels.
